The Aparna Open Tennis Tournament 2025 is an annual inter-Aparna community event designed to foster community spirit and a shared passion for tennis. This non-commercial, not-for-profit event is organized by volunteer tennis enthusiasts.
Key Tournament Details:
Dates: January 25th to February 9th, 2025 (all weekends)
Venue: Vijay Tennis Academy (6 hard courts)
Format:
- 5 doubles and 5 singles matches per team.
- Group stage matches: Best of 15 games (first to 8, 7-all tiebreak).
Semi-finals and Finals: Best of 19 games (first to 10, 9-all tiebreak).-
- Singles tiebreak: Race to 7 (win by 2).
- Doubles tiebreak: Race to 10 (win by 2).
- Deuce: 2 points for the first two deuces, a single/golden point (advantage all) on the third deuce. Receiver chooses the service court (deuce or advantage).
Aparna Open Tennis Tournament Rules:
- Primarily follows ITF rules (including doubles positioning and racket crossing the net).
- Foot faults are monitored and considered faults.
- Intentional double touches result in a point for the opponent.
- Grunting and calling the ball are permitted, but calling the ball out or catching it before it bounces results in a point for the opponent.
Teams and Structure:
- 8 teams participating.
- 120 participants.
- Lucky draw for group creation:
Group A: Avenues, ASO/Cyberlife++, Commune, Zenith
Group B: Cyberzon, Lakebreeze, Sarovar, Serene Park
Semi-final and Final Format:
Semi-final 1: Winner of Group A vs. Runner-up of Group B
Semi-final 2: Winner of Group B vs. Runner-up of Group A
Winners of the semi-finals will play in the final.
Scheduling and Rescheduling:
- Matches primarily held on weekends.
- Rescheduling is discouraged due to the limited timeframe (3 weekends). Teams can play on weekdays but only 1 in 10 matches can be done this way. If both teams are unavailable, points are split.
Squad Size: Up to 25 players per team.
Young Players: Each team can have one player under 18 as a seeded player.
Points System (per win):
- D1 and S1: 3 points
- D2, D3, S2, S3: 2 points
- All other matches: 1.5 points
Officiating:
Main and line umpires are preferably from non-participating teams.
The referee's decision is final.
Equipment: Slazenger Championship or equivalent balls (2 new or near-new balls per match).
Conduct: Any distraction during an opponent's shot results in a point for the opponent. Violence will result in immediate termination of the player or potentially the entire team.
Emphasis: The tournament emphasizes team spirit, camaraderie, healthy competition, and fun.
