Season 9 of the Balraj Gupta Memorial Tennis Tournament got off to a powerful start, with Opening Day delivering exactly what everyone was waiting for — competitive spirit, intense rallies, and pure doubles action.

The categories that played their opening matches include the Men’s Doubles 80+, Men’s Doubles 100+, Men’s Doubles 120+, and Women’s Doubles Open categories.

In the Men’s Doubles 80+ competition, the number one seeded team V. Chauhan & T. Sharma made a strong start, while Varun Garg & Rajat Kalra made a confident start to advance to the next round. The closely fought contest between Raman Pahuja & D. Sondhi and H. Singh & J. Singh showed the level of competition in this category.

In the Men’s Doubles 100+ , there was a strong starts by T. Sharma & P. Walia, who won their first match easily. Hem Chandra & V. Chauhan also made a strong start, relying on their experience and awareness to advance easily. Punar Bhasin & Pawan Jain , they also made a strong statement by winning their first match comprehensively, showing their determination in this season.

In the Men’s Doubles 120+ category, experienced pairs such as P. S. Rohilla & C. Bhushan and Rajan Berry & Ajay Gosain  began their tournament calmly, moving ahead effortlessly into the next round.

The Women’s Doubles Open competition had a fast tempo right from the start. Nikunj & Neha showed impressive coordination and net play, while Isha & Sonia showed impressive rhythm and control, making them a duo to watch out for as the tournament continues.

 

Performances That Set the Tone

Among the performances that stood out on the day were those of T. Sharma, who played well all day, and V. Chauhan, who showed experience and composure in her court presence and play as a partner.

The pair of Hem Chandra & Pawan Jain also showed controlled aggression and good communication, which is a potent combination that won them many points.
