World No. 1 Jannik Sinner Withdraws From Paris Olympics 2024

Major Blow Jannik Sinner Withdraws From Paris Olympics 2024

TennisKhelo brings to you the latest tennis news, that world number one Jannik Sinner withdraws from Paris Olympics 2024 due to failing health. The unsuspecting piece of news has simply shocked one and all in the tennis fraternity and fans across the globe.

Is Injury the Reason Behind Sinner’s Olympic Absence?

Jannik Sinner, who had been a source of solace for Italy’s tennis pride, fell ill with tonsillitis after an intensive practice week in Monaco. The problem persisted, and despite the best efforts and medical consultation, his condition only worsened, compelling him to withdraw. Sinner expressed his disappointment: “I was looking forward to competing with my teammates and the rest of the Italian team, but for now, that will have to wait. As advised by my medical team, I will now take some time to rest and recover to full health.”.

Only a year away from the Paris Olympics, 22-year-old Jannik Sinner was all set to become a medal threat in both the singles and doubles events. But his illness came out of nowhere on the back of a taxing practice week in Monaco. He was keen to compete, but his doctors told him he needed to take care of himself first. “I was looking forward to competing with my colleagues and the rest of the Italian team, but for now, that will have to wait,” Sinner shared.

Consequences for the Italian Tennis Team

This is a massive blow to the Italian tennis team’s chances at the Olympics. He was not going to play only in men’s singles; rather, he was also due to play doubles along with Lorenzo Musetti. Now Musetti needs to find a new partner, and Luciano Darderi or Matteo Arnaldi will be an option for that role. In addition, Andrea Vavassori, who is ranked 207 in the world ranking, will find his way into the roster instead of Sinner in the men’s singles event.

This development means an immediate reshuffle for the Italian team, which was expecting a very good performance. Sinner was amongst the top contenders for the singles and, of course, along with fellow countryman Lorenzo Musetti in the doubles. With Sinner out, this puts another problem on Musetti, who will now need to search for another partner to pair up with, probably either Luciano Darderi or Matteo Arnaldi. Andrea Vavassori will substitute for Sinner’s place in the singles event.

Sinner’s Sensational Season

Jannik Sinner has been having a season to remember, bagging his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and rising to the top in world rankings—all this within an incredibly short period. At Wimbledon 2024 recently, his form is such that even when he lost in a very tough quarter-final with Daniil Medvedev, he came out looking good. Sinner’s success has brought immense pride to Italian tennis, and his absence from the Olympics is keenly felt.

The setback is even more disheartening with Sinner coming off an incredible season. First Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and becoming world number one is not something to snuff up. So, he has shown immense development recently, so many people are excited about his presence at the Olympics.

Looking Ahead

Although disappointing, he still is very positive about the future. Sinner hopes to come back stronger and continue the pursuit of excellence in tennis. TennisKhelo wishes him, along with his fans all around the world, a very speedy and complete recovery.

First and foremost is Jannik Sinner’s health and well-being. While taking some time off to recover, his absence will no doubt be missed out there at the Paris Olympics 2024. TennisKhelo would support and follow his journey while waiting for the Italian to finally return to court action.
