Greetings to you from Solapur District Lawn Tennis Association (SDLTA), the mecca of lawn tennis in Maharashtra and also home to one of the Best Tennis Academies in Solapur. Thus, stepping into this world of tennis we come across a unique experience, which is primarily a passion, devotion and an element of entertaining game.

The Story of Solapur District Lawn Tennis Association

SDLTA was established  in the year 1985 and it is situated in Solapur Maharashtra thus,it is a tennis power house. Being in existence for several years with a clear vision of nursing the sport of tennis . SDLTA has grown to be one of the most famous organizations in the world of tennis. Indeed, through engagement and participation in existing competitions, the association has greatly contributed in the discovery and indeed the nurturing of young talent that will help develop the players to their optimal best.

SDLTA is not just a tennis association – It is a group of people bonded by shared interest in the game. This has been achieved by the association which has a meeting to ensure that everyone is welcome to play irrespective of his age or discovery . Whether it is the initial session or honing the skills, SDLTA has all the Top Tennis Classes for one and everyone. The Award Winning Journey

The good news here is that despite our efforts being fairly modest, the service has rewarded us for it! In the year 2023-24 our Association “Solapur District Lawn Tennis Association” was awarded as the ‘Best District Association in Maharashtra’ for our extraordinary activities and we received a memento also.

The felicitation ceremony was held at the annual scholarship program of MSLTA at Mumbai where I was honored by the officials from the Israeli consulate Mr. Kobbi Shoshani and the chief secretary of sports and youths affairs Mr. O P Gupta of Maharashtra.

This prestigious award is a recognition of the effort of the team that has done a great job in churning out talents that are awesome and also in organizing international tournaments effectively.

International Success 

That is not the end of our journey! We have also provided the talented players who have achieved the standards of International tournaments to represent India’s Tennis strength at International level.

• Prarthana Thombare:

Our major success story is the Rio Olympics in which one of our own trainers, Prarthana Thombare took part. She had the honor to play against Veerpal Kaur Gobind in doubles and teamed up with Saniya Mirza which can hardly be considered a common occurrence for the beginner.

• Aakruti Sonkusare:

The young talented player of SDLTA, Aakruti Sonkusare represented India in the girls under-14 category at the World Championships held at Thailand and Kazakhstan . This is a testimony to the efforts that the association has been putting in place to help young talent come out and be able to showcase their abilities on the big stage.

Other Successes

• Sandhyarani Bandgar,

A talented tennis player of the Solapur District Lawn Tennis Association, achieved a sensational feat by winning the singles and doubles titles in the 40+ category of the 2024 Ilesium ITF MT400 World Master Tennis Championship.

• Rajiv Desai and Pankaj Shah:

The Solapur District Lawn Tennis Association has an impressive streak of experienced tennis players Rajiv Desai and Pankaj Shah, who are paired in the 55+ category in the ITF MT-100 and MT-200 ranking tournaments in 2022 and 2023 -Received the degree.

Rajiv Desai Sir Started playing tennis in the year 1985. He Represented Shivaji University , Kolhapur in all India University Championships held at Coimbatore. He was manager of the Pakistan team for the Davis Cup tie held at CCI Mumbai in 2010 and of the New Zealand team as well held at Balewadi Pune in 2016.
At present, He is joint secretary of MSLTA
